Chase credit cards; DON’T GIVE CHASE YOUR BUSINESS!!!!!!
I had 2 cards from Chase for 15 years, and always paid them on time, over the minimum amount, yet when I divorced they arbitrarily raised my interest rate from 10% to 28.99%, even as the Fed dropped the prime rate!!!! I have 2 other credit cards, Amex and Citibank, and niether of them raised my rates when I became single again.
I called and tried to get Chase to lower the rate. They refused, saying that they reserved the right to raise the rates at will. I cancelled the cards. One of my Chase cards already had a zero balance when I cancelled the cards.
Then, in attempt to pay the remaining card balance off more quickly I made 2 large payments in one month, not realizing that the 2nd one arrived at Chase one day before the billling cycle cutoff. They applied both payments in the same month, and then charged me a delinquent fee for the next month. When I called to try to have the late fee reversed based on my outstanding previous on-time payment record, they refused - and got very rude about it. By my calculations by the time I make the last payment next month it will have cost me an extra $473.00 to have done business with Chase since they hiked the rates ( as opposed to the interest I would have paid on the same balance at my 8.99 % rate at American Express or Citibank)
The moral of the story is: Chase is more interested in shafting their customers to make a few extra dollars than they are in customer loyalty.
Since my problems with Chase came at a time when the mortgage crisis was heating up, my guess is that they are trying to recoup their losses on bad debts by raising rates on other customers. DON”T let them get YOU!
