Schlamozzel here with another Slumlord Brand (TM) review to round out the “Big Three” in the category of “Bombastic Blundering Bunk-mongering Insurance Companies”. Will you all please raise your toilet lids and give a “Royal Flush” to TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities.

As many of you my friends and return readers know I have “fairly-recently” lost my last remaining parent. Dealing with that issue of “life progression” as I call it is difficult enough. I’m at a time in my life when some ease and peace of mind would be tremendously appreciated. But in dealing with the “stone-walls” at TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities it has become plainly apparent I will have to forego that little dream.

The Basics

TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities offers several financial products. Such as Life insurance, retirement plans, After-tax Annuities, Mutual Funds, IRAs etc. and also offer money management services. They are predominantly in existence for “public employees” like Teachers and Civil Service workers. More information about them may be found on their web site located at:

My Experiences With This Company

I’ll bet if some customer service know-it-all from TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities ever reads this they won’t understand my disdain. 5 to 1 says they wouldn’t be able to find their backsides with 2 hands, a flashlight and a road map.

Upon having contacted TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities and making the initial notification of my late fathers death we were ASSURED that all would be taken care of within 1 week AFTER they receive the certificate of death. This was nearly 7 weeks ago. Several return and follow-up calls were made to the representative. Several messages have been left for this person AND in “general mailboxes”. NONE OF THOSE CALLS HAVE BEEN RETURNED! So I AGAIN contacted TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities by telephone just over 1 week ago. That time I actually got a real human being. After giving them the information they said was all that was needed to get papers sent to me to pay out the benefits, I was ASSURED I would have the package IN HAND within 1 week.

Yesterday I AGAIN was forced to contact TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities to find out why I STILL had not received any paperwork. AGAIN I was told that the company needed THE VERY SAME INFORMATION I HAD GIVEN THEM OVER 1 WEEK EARLIER. When I informed the person of that fact and stated the name of the agent with whom my conversation took place I was placed on hold…

When the agent came back on the line I was told that they INDEED DID have the information I gave them. I was AGAIN assured the paprework necessary to process the claim would be SENT OUT WITHIN A WEEK. Not “in my hands” mind you… “sent out” from THEIR offices.

I am now thinking back to seeing their advertisements on television. They use that song, “Somewhere there’s a place for us”. Ooh baby do I know where it is located! About 6 miles off the coast of Boston, right where Deer Island waste water treatment facility empties ITS product.

Final thoughts

I have absolutely no idea why anybody in their right minds could possibly want to deal with a company like this. At a time when I REALLY need to have PEACE in my life and muddle through the grief of a painful loss this company, TIAA CREF Insurance Annuities has done NOTHING but compound the grief and suffering of our family.
